Commissioned by the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, Rodin was to sculpt a character based on The Divine Comedy of Dante. The Thinker statue intended to represent Dante himself reflecting on the scene below.

Our bronze reproduction is done in great detail, with substantial weight to the piece.
